E. Access Requirements. Access to the mixing, pumping, and injection locations shall be provided to
the engineer or their designated representatives at all times.
F. Injection Rate. The grout injection rate (cement grout) shall be as directed by the engineer. It is
expected to be within a range of 0.5 and 2.0 ft³/minute and average 1.5 ft³/minute for the entire
work. An adjustment shall be made in the contract price if the average injection rate varies more
than 25% up or down from the expected 1.5 ft³/minute. For foam injection, rate shall be
determined by the Contractor.
G. Grade Control. Control the final elevations within 1/8 in. of the proposed profile elevations using
continuous laser level or dial indicator micrometer readings monitored by the Contractor during
injection to determine sufficient material usage and soils densification. Confirm that the pavement
has been aligned properly to facilitate drainage.
H. Grout Refusal Criteria. Grout injection into any stage of any grout hole shall be discontinued if so
directed by the engineer. Refusal pressures shall be measured when injecting grout at the
approved injection rates. General refusal criteria shall be any one of the following:
Pumping at a header pressure of 1,000 lb/in² or more for a period of 3 minutes.
Sustained pumping at a header pressure of 500 lb/in² or greater.
Unwanted displacement of an adjacent structure of greater than 1/8 in. occurs.
Unwanted displacement of the ground surface of more than 1/16 in. occurs during a grout
stage.
I. Acceptance. Holes shall be considered acceptably grouted when testing at a distance of 1/4 to 1/3
of the net hole spacing from that hole meets a Penetration Index of 10 over six inches, when tested
by DCP
The choice of holes to be tested will be by the engineer, and will be at least 10% of those
installed.
Any grout hole that is lost or damaged, does not reach the design depth, or is not
continuously grouted as a result of equipment deficiencies or mechanical failure, inadequate
control of the grout pipe (including allowing the grout pipe to be expelled from the hole
because of insufficient restraint), inadequacy of the grout mix, improper drilling, mixing, or
injection procedures shall be backfilled and replaced by another, properly installed, hole at
no cost to the owner.
J. Repairs. Repair any pavement blowouts, excessive pavement lifting or pavement damage that may
occur as a result of the Contractor’s work as directed without any additional compensation.
5.4 SITE MAINTENANCE AND RESTORATION
A. Housekeeping. The contractor shall keep the site clean and tidy at all times. Site improvements
shall be protected from damage or becoming soiled through suitable temporary covering. Spilled
grout shall be promptly picked up and moved to an appropriate waste storage area. Hoses, delivery
lines, and other items that are not in immediate use shall be neatly stored in a manner that will not
impede the ongoing work. All trash shall be collected and neatly stored for disposal. As soon as a
reasonable quantity of such waste material has gathered, it shall be promptly removed from the
