        Gossip creates a NEGATIVE environment!
What is the definition of Gossip?
-Gossip has the power to divide and destroy everything we’ve build. It kills morale, unity, productivity and
creativity, plus causes turnover. So if gossip is so detrimental, how do we stop it?

What is our definition of gossip?
-When a NEGATIVE is discussed with ANYONE who cannot solve the problem.

Here are a few ways you can kill the rumor mill.

            1. Set an example: Your first step for shutting down gossip is to take a look in the mirror. Are you guilty of
talking negatively about someone on your team to another who is not one of your leaders? As a leader
of your company, your team watches everything you do and will naturally follow your example.
                   a. Here’s a quick tip: Avoid impulse communication with team members when you are angry or
upset. Your leaders show that gossip will not be tolerated by anyone at our company. And yes,
email/text communication will count too when it comes to gossip.
            2. Be Transparent: One of the main causes of gossip at a company is lack of communication. People
want to know what’s going on and why. If not, fear, frustration and anger set in, and the “talk” begins.
Trust your fellow team members and avoid “mushroom communication”(keeping them in the dark and
feeding them manure). Create a culture of communication. When you are in doubt, always over share-
as long as you are not betraying confidences or crossing the gossip line.

            3. Action step/Solution: Schedule a meeting with your Supervisors, Managers, or HR if you feel the
need. Be sure to hand the problem up the leadership ranks to help you solve a problem. (Your fellow
employee or receptionist in the front office will NOT solve your problem). So be sure to go through the
appropriate channels to find a solution.

Our policy: You will be warned once. If it happens again, it can lead to your termination.
