Dear Michael:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please verify the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. In most cases, the costs shown in your evaluation are
estimates for the 2021 plan year.
Until you begin your Social Security payments, you will be billed quarterly in advance for your
Part B premiums. When you eventually start receiving Social Security payments, your Part B
premiums will be deducted from your monthly checks.
Your supplemental coverage options
Now that you have enrolled in Part A and Part B, you will need to enroll in your supplemental
coverage within the next few days. After you’ve signed up for your supplemental coverage, you
should have your enrollment cards for the Medigap policy and the stand-alone drug plan within
a couple of weeks.
Here are your next enrollment steps:
Decide which Medigap plan you want. That will likely be Plan G. It’s a good idea
to call at least three insurers for current quotes before choosing the company
you will get your policy from. And specify that you want your policy to go into
effect on December 1. The phone numbers of the insurers licensed to sell
Medigap policies in Florida are shown in Appendix B1.
To enroll in the stand-alone drug plan, call the plan’s toll-free number, shown on
page 4 of the evaluation and in the Rx drug coverage section below. When you
enroll in the stand-alone plan, you will be enrolled in Part D.
Determining the state that you will get your Medigap policy in
People who live in different states during the year should almost always get a Medigap policy,
which provides standardized medical coverage in all 50 states. When we spoke, I suggested that
you get your Medigap policy in the state that you consider your official state of residence.
That’s the state where you file your state income tax returns, where your driver’s license is
