your drugs in Appendix C1. And a comparison of the next year’s two lowest-cost stand alone
plans for your Rx drugs is on page 4 of your evaluation.
The two lowest-cost Part D stand-alone plans for your drugs next year will both be new plans in
2021, and so you will need to enroll in a different plan for the month of December. Then in
December you can switch to next year’s lowest-cost plan, effective January 1. While this is
admittedly cumbersome, it will save you several hundred dollars compared to the cost of not
switching.
The lowest-cost stand-alone drug plan for your drugs in 2021 is the Mutual of Omaha Rx
Premier Plan, which will have a monthly premium of $25.90. For mail-order prescriptions, this
plan’s estimated costs for your drugs next year is $545, including premiums and co-payments.
Its benefit summary for 2021 is in Appendix C2.
The lowest-cost plan for the month of December is another Mutual of Omaha plan – the
Mutual of Omaha Rx Value Plan. Its costs for December are $70, including the $25.80 monthly
premium and co-pays for the five drugs you take. This plan’s benefit summary for the month of
December is in Appendix C3.*
The only concern with the Mutual of Omaha plans is that Medicare has given them a below-
average quality rating of 2.5 stars for 2021 – the first year they are being rated. This rating does
not apply specifically to the Mutual of Omaha Rx Premier Plan, which will be a new plan next
year, but to all Mutual of Omaha stand-alone plans in the Medicare contract. This below-
average rating may not be an issue for your drugs, all of which are commonly used generics that
the plan has not placed any restrictions on except for the usual quantity limits.
The next lowest cost plan for 2021 is the Clear Spring Health Premier Rx Plan. It is also a new
plan and doesn’t yet have a quality rating. This plan’s benefit summary is in Appendix C4.
To enroll in the Mutual of Omaha Rx Value Plan for the month of December, call (800) 961-
9006. You can probably also enroll in next year’s Mutual of Omaha Rx Premier plan during this
same phone call, making sure that the representative you speak with knows that you want the
switch to go into effect on January 1.
It’s important to use the exact names of the plans and their monthly premiums to avoid any
confusion with other Mutual of Omaha plans. Also, you might ask if your current mail-order
prescriptions can be transferred to your new plan. If that can’t be done, you will need to ask
your physicians for new prescriptions.
Finally, the Mutual of Omaha Rx Premier plan that is your lowest-cost plan in Florida next year
is also the lowest-cost plan for your drugs in the Chicago area. You can use it there (or just
about anywhere in the United States) when you need to get prescriptions filled at a local
pharmacy. But Walgreens is not a preferred pharmacy in this plan, and you might get
somewhat lower prices at a CVS or Walmart Pharmacy.
