respect the civil and political rights of Black Americans.
In return, Republicans agreed to withdraw federal
troops from south. This led to Democrats consolidating
their control throughout the south.
While the GOP sought to protect black citizens, their
protections quickly failed as federal troops were
removed. Descendants of slaves were left to the
mercies of the Democrats and their violent KKK
contingent. Though not intended, this GOP blunder
“sold-out” its long history of being the sole defender of
the civil rights of slaves. The justice and mercy that GOD
demands (Micah 6:8) was compromised. This act began
a mass migration of former slaves into northern cities.
The second “flub” occurred as a natural byproduct of
the 1929 crash and subsequent depression. Republicans
were blamed for the severe depression that followed.
The New Deal proved to be a vital lifeline for virtually
every American. From that point, blacks began voting
Democratic in large numbers.
Another “blunder” that helps explain today’s loyalties of
African American voters to Democrats came after War II
when President Harry S. Truman ordered the
desegregation of the military on July 26, 1948. In truth,
the idea for this directive was not original to President
Truman or to Democrats. In fact, Democrats were
actually last on board. Truman’s order followed in
reaction to the Republican Party’s promise to
desegregate the military during the hotly contested
