hold 196 electoral votes. Of these 16 states, three
highly populated states (CA, IL, NY) control a large
percentage of those votes. If states that collectively
hold only 74 more electoral votes pass this initiative,
then POTUS elections will be determined by which
candidate wins the popular vote across the land [65] .
Those who support electoral reform believe that
doing this would guarantee that POTUS would likely
be a “Progressive” since heavily populated states are
typically dominated by progressive leaning voters.
The downside of this change is that America no
longer remains a Republic; it becomes a democracy
where majority rules. Pure democracies end up as
tyrannies. The framers of the constitution recognized
this conflict when they organized the legislative
branch into two entities. The Senate now allows each
state to be equally represented by two senators
regardless of its population. In contrast, the number
of legislators who serve in the House is proportioned
according to the relative size of the state’s
population. Given that most highly populated states
now favor Progressive candidates, once a Popular
Vote bill is passed by enough states that can render
the remaining 74 Electoral votes, America will soon
be ruled by only One-Party.
The “Electoral College” is a constitutional rule that
proves the genius of the framers. They wanted to
limit the likelihood that the highly populated states
could maintain ongoing power to rule over the less
populated areas. Changing the electoral process so
