P. 13
The males travel in groups, but they
are not as close as the family groups. Males
often move from one herd to another. A
herd wakes up at 4:00 in the morning. The
elephants want to start grazing before it
gets too hot. They walk to a water hole and
drink.
The herd walks and eats about 16
hours per day. They eat grass, leaves, bark,
and fruit. Sometimes they stop and take
naps. At midnight the herd stops for the
night. All the elephants lie down and sleep.
Some of them snore.
