The next morning, the woodcutter and
his wife lead the children into the woods.
As they walked, Hansel secretly dropped
the little white rocks along the path.
Finally, they found a nice area and the
woodcutter and his wife built a fire for the
children. "Stay here, my children, until
your father and I return. We are going to cut
wood in the forest," said the stepmother.
Hansel and Gretel soon fell asleep.
They woke up at night time and their
parents had not returned. However, the little
white rocks that Hansel had dropped along
the path shone brightly in the moonlight.
