The two children followed the white

rocks all the way home and climbed back

into their beds. The next morning, the

father was very happy that his children had

found their way home.

The stepmother, however, was very

angry and said, "We must bring them

deeper into the woods so they will never

find their way back home."

The next morning, the stepmother said

to the children, "We are all going to the

woods again to cut wood. Here is half a loaf

of bread for each of you."

The family went into the woods. As

they walked, Hansel broke off small pieces

of his bread and dropped them along the

path.
