Christy, chief of staff atthe Brooklyn Veterans AdministrationMedical Center has been named the recipient of the Ay erst Award for 1986. Theaward honors a member of the EndocrineSociety for distinguished service in the fieldof endocrinology. Christy was recognizedfor his 35 years of teaching, research, practice, administration, scholarship and service to society.Weeksville Gets GrantThe Society for the Preservation ofWeeksville and Bedford-Stuyvesant Historyhas received a donation of $1,300 fromCitibank to help promote the Society%u2019smuseum and program.State Senator Velmanette Montgomerymade a legislative request that the funds goto cover me production ana aisiriDunon ofthe society%u2019s post and note cards. The society is working to fully restore four Nineteenth Century buildings called the Hunterfly Road Houses.Borough President Howard Golden and Sanitation Commissioner Brendon Sexton toured downtown Brooklyn on August 26 to evaluate the effectiveness of sanitation efforts in the area. Downtown streets received a mixed review, with some streets being more litter strewn than others, but Montague Street where Brooklyn Heights Association worker Cindy LaBronx, pictured here, met Golden and Sexton, received the %u201c thumbs up.%u201d (Brooklyn,Inc/Koch Photo)Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation President Beth Goldberg and Chemical Bank Vice President Sandi Wald review the economic plans for Kings County following the banks $5,000 contribution to the not-for-profit groun. Since its inception in 1979, BEDC has expanded its efforts ton-fold in stimulatina new business in the borough and Chemical has increased its contribution nearly 50 percent over the previous year as public support has diminished.
