1)54 The Xatii>nal Supply and M a c h in e r y Dealers’ Association

never attended a meeting where a larger proportion of those
present expressed themselves from the iloor. I think von are to
he congratulated upon it. There is no reason why you shouldn't,
and yet I find in a good many business organizations that men
who have good business ideas fear to rise.
To the few who have not spoken T have a word on that line,
if it will he in order. (Mr. 1'em ley then told the Convention his
experience in delivering his first address, which occurred when a
                      lad at school in Philadelphia),
W hile you have spoken in your resolution of some sugges
tions I have made, I would not have you lose sight of the fact
that they are not the suggestions of Fernley, but suggestions that
come to me through affiliation with organizations of this kind
from the Atlantic to the Pacific. I take from here quite as much
as 1 have brought here, and, in fact, I am not sure but that i take
                      more.
W hen you hear of the Convention of the National Hardware
Association, which will occur in the fall of this year, I hope you
will come to that meeting, and I know you will be extended e v e r y
                      courtesy possible.
In the name of the Association I thank you. (Applause).

                           P re s id e n t S t r o n g : There is nothing further on the
program except the installation of officers. As the same officers
will serve you for another year, that formality can be dispensed

                      with, I presume.
                           M r. O ’H a r a : Mr. President, there was a resolution that
was offered and referred back to a committee consisting of Mr.
Derby, Mr. I>rion and myself. I spoke to Mr. Derby about it this
evening, and lie said to let that pass until next year as he was
obliged to go away for the present. So the resolution will not be
                      presented.

                           P re sid e n t S t r o n g : A s Mr. Derby was the originator of
that motion, I presume that will be satisfactory to the Convention.
1 f so, I suppose we may as well accept it as the report of the
Committee, and let the Committee be discharged.
Moved and seconded that the Committee be discharged.
                      Carried.
