Long Term Disability (LTD)
If your disability extends beyond 90 days, you may qualify for continued
payment under the LTD beneit program. If you qualify for this beneit,
you receive 66.67% of your pre-disability monthly income.
Like STD beneits, LTD beneits are coordinated with any federal, state,
workers’ compensation, or other beneits you may receive. Unlike STD
beneits, LTD beneits are not subject to taxation. Also unlike STD
beneits, LTD beneits may not be supplemented with accrued paid leave.
Note although NISC pays the LTD premium, the value of the premium is
included as taxable income to the employee pursuant to IRS rules.
LTD beneits cannot be supplemented with accrued paid leave.
