In a significant move to enhance the innovation ecosystem, the United Arab Emirates and the United States have

signed a Joint Statement of Intent to launch a bilateral cooperation programme designed to accelerate patent
approval processes in the UAE. The agreement was inked on the sidelines of the 66th Assemblies of the Member

States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

The statement, signed between the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the United States Patent and

Trademark Office (USPTO), outlines a framework that allows the UAE to leverage the USPTO’s positive
