* 154 years ago (1870) Mihai Eminescu began his collaboration with the
magazine "Junimii", "Literary Conversations", with the poem "Venus and

               Madonna"

               * 106 years ago (1918), on this date, the house in the picturesque Ţicău
neighborhood of Iasi where the writer Ion Creangă lived, between 1872 and
1889, also called "Creangă's Bojdeuca" (or "Bojdeuca din Ţicău"), became a

memorial museum. It is worth mentioning that "Creangă's Bojdeuca" is the
               first memorial house in Romania

               * It is 75 years (1949) since the premiere of the drama "Bălcescu", by Camil
Petrescu, took place on the stage of the National Theater in Bucharest

               * Also on April 15, and also 75 years ago, the Symphony Orchestra of the

"Gheorghe Dima" State Philharmonic was founded in Brasov

               * It marks 60 years (1964) since, between April 15 and 22, the enlarged
plenary of the CC of the PCR took place, which adopted the Declaration on the

position of the PCR in the problems of the international communist and
workers' movement. The declaration condemned the CPSU's claims to
dominate the international communist movement under the pretext of

proletarian and socialist internationalism, in reality a codification of the state
interests of the USSR. The declaration marked the official beginning of

Romania's independent policy within the socialist "camp"

               * It marks 35 years (1989) since the Chinese student protests began in
Tiananmen Square in Beijing (a few weeks later, on June 4, the Chinese

authorities would suppress the student revolt)

               * Also 35 years ago, the tragedy at Hillsborough Stadium (Sheffield, England)

took place, when at an FA Cup semi-final match between FC Liverpool and FC
Nottingham Forest, 96 people were killed and another 766 people injured. The

official 1990 inquiry into the disaster, called the Taylor Report, concluded that
"the main reason for the tragedy is poor police control." The report's findings

led to the removal of standing terraces in all major stadiums in the UK. The
