– 2008: Engineer Dan Mateescu died; theoretical and experimental studies in
the field of metal construction (the dome of the National Exhibition Pavilion in
Bucharest, the metal structure of the power plants at the Iron Gates I and II,
etc.); full member of the Romanian Academy since 1974 (b. 1911)
– 2008: Dan Grigorescu, art critic and historian, literary critic and historian,
essayist, English writer, translator and professor of comparative literature,
died; full member of the Romanian Academy since 2004 (b. 1931)
– 2014 – Nina Cassian (real name: Renée Annie Cassian), poet, prose writer
and translator, author of lieder and chamber music, settled in the USA since
1985 (b. 1924) – 10 years
– 2015: The icon painter Maria Deac Poenariu, included in 2010 by the Ministry
of Culture in the program "Living Human Treasures – Custodians and
Transmitters of Culture" initiated by UNESCO, died; she was the last
representative of the Poenaru painters from the village of Laz, iconographers
who developed a special aesthetic style and a true school of painting on the
Sebeş Valley, starting with 1770 (b. 1923)
– 2016: Alexandru Neculae Boriga, statistician, engineer and professor, died;
Outstanding contributions to athletic statistics (b. 1944)

– Brussels: Informal meeting of EU energy ministers (15 – 16 Apr.)
-Strasbourg: A debate on Kosovo's application for membership of the Council
of Europe and the vote on a draft opinion will be the highlight of the spring
session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). There
will also be a joint debate on "The death of Alexei Navalny and the need to
counter Vladimir Putin's totalitarian regime and his war on democracy", and
on "The arbitrary detention of Vladimir Kara-Murza and the systematic
persecution of anti-war protesters in Russia and Belarus", together with a third
report proposing targeted sanctions against those involved in the detention,
