Amish Sunshine and Shadows Old Order Amish prior to 1940s. eBay purchase from vendor Paris0813 who
collected it from Pennsylvania. 79"x83" Fabric: Cottons, I think. Several fabrics, including the brown bor-
der, have a smooth appearance but a rough feel. I don’t know what they might be. Batting: Thin. Backing:
Medium-dark green satin. Edge: A 1" tape of the same dusty rose of the border between the motif and the
brown has been applied by hand on both sides. Velcro on back for display purposes. Piecing: By machine.
Quilting: By hand, extensive, elaborate, in black thread, 10 stitches to the inch. It shows very well on the
green satin back of the quilt. The center motif is quilted with an X across each square. The dusty rose
colored border is quilted with a 5-petaled flower at each corner and a pattern of diamonds made by a
double line ½" apart, the diamonds filled with 4-petaled flowers. The broad brown border is filled with
plumes. Condition: Very good. There is a faded streak affecting the lavender block at one corner of the
interior motif. There is also slight fading in the brown near one corner that looks like a knapped fabric
brushed the wrong way. It does not detract from the appearance of the quilt. There are two ¼" dark spots
in the brown border that don’t show except upon close inspection.
