Lake Houston Chapter TTA’s Five Star Program Targets Houston’s North Forest Community

As part of their Five Star Program, Lake Houston TTA filled a void in
Houston’s North Forest Community, where over 95% of the students
receive free or reduced lunch, by bringing Christmas Cheer to twenty-
five middle school students. On December 18, 2016, Lake Houston
Teens presented “The Healthy Mile” and “The Importance of Reading
during the Holidays” at a Christmas party hosted with community part-
ner, Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Teens discussed the importance of
healthy eating, and distributed healthy recipes along with dental hy-
giene packs, gift cards, and cell phone accessories. Lake Houston Top
Ladies of Distinction mentors joined forces to support their Teens by
donating dental packs, gift cards, and cell phone accessories for the
event. In addition, mentors assisted their mentees with preparing
presentations for the party.Teens prepared snacks for their guests, fa-
cilitated games, and distributed Nancy Drew Mystery novels for stu-
dents to read over the Christmas Holiday. Through their Five Star
Program, Lake Houston TLOD and TTA have impacted five-hundred
forty-five families of pre-school children and twenty-five middle school
students as a result of their involvement at Mt. Zion Baptist Church
and Fonwood Early Childhood Center both located in Houston’s
North Forest Community.

San Antonio

The San Antonio Metropolitan Chapter’s Top Teens of America participated in the “Elf Louise Christmas Project” during
the Christmas Holidays by delivering presents to needy children in San Antonio. The Elf Louise Project provides a little bit
of joy to Bexar County’s less fortunate children during the Christmas Holidays. The project began in 1969 when the found-
er, Louise Locker, was a student at Trinity University in San Antonio.
