             Raleigh Top Teens Local, State and District Champs of Black History

In 2016 Raleigh Top Teens formed a high School team to participate in the Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Black
Knowledge Bowl. The Bowl is open to students in Elementary, Middle and High (grades 4-12) in Wake County, North Car-
olina. The teams study provided material at their level of competition. The Top Teens’ team came in second place in the
High School Division.
When the competition opened for the 2017 year, Top Teens from various schools formed both a High School and Middle
School team. Ladies Glendia Bryson-Jacobs and Mo Johnson were the Team Advisor and Knowledge coach. The Bowl was
held March 4 on the campus of the historic Shaw University.
The Middle School team did not advance but the High school Team won entitling them to compete at the State level in
April. The state competition held April 17 via computer resulted in a tie between the Raleigh Top Teens and Mallard Creek
High School of Charlotte, NC. Top Teens won in the tie breaker becoming North Carolina State champions and advanced
to the District level.
On Friday April 29th, the Top Teens traveled to Greensboro, NC for the District Championship against Goose Creek High
School the South Carolina State Champs. After a grueling match the Top Teens reigned victorious capturing the District
Championship. Team members returned to Raleigh with individual State plaques, State Team Plaque, the District Team
Plaque, prize money and the traveling District Trophy Cup.
