From Generation to Generation

                             Temple Israel Honors

                   Judith and Justin Rubin

Judith Rubin is Bronx-born, and grew up in Kew Garden Hills, NY, where her family was
members of the Kew Garden Hills Jewish Center. She was educated in public schools, including
Forest Hills HS, and then graduated from Queens College (CUNY) with a BA in
Spanish/French/education in 1968. She student-taught and then taught at the Junior High
School she had attended.

She and Justin met in 1965, and were married at Beth Shalom of Long Beach in 1967. They spent
the first 5 years of their marriage in Forest Hills, NY. In 1972, they moved to Long Beach, and
have lived in their State Street home since then.

They welcomed three beautiful daughters: Jennifer (1970), Julie (1972) and Jill (1975), who
subsequently studied at the Temple Israel Talmud Torah.

Justin was born and raised in Long Beach, became Bar Mitzvah at Beth Shalom in 1955, attended
LB schools, and then earned a BA in Sociology from Brooklyn College (CUNY) in 1964. In 1967, he
began a career in Casualty Insurance which spanned 40 years, retiring in 2006 as Regional
Claims Executive for a major carrier.

In 1982, Judith returned to her career, teaching Foreign Languages at Long Beach High School.
After teaching in the Foreign Language Department from 1983 to 1998, she transferred to Special
Education. She often says that the ensuing years, with Special Needs students, were the most
rewarding of all her years in education. Judy retired in 2012.

Judith and Justin are blessed to have three wonderful sons, thanks to their daughters, and are
beaming grandparents of five boys and four girls, ages 15 to 4. They are further blessed that
their daughters and sons and grandchildren all reside in Nassau County, and are members of
their neighborhood synagogues. Over the years, these growing families spent many High
Holidays in Temple Israel with Judith and Justin, who have been members for 35 years. The
recollection of these times in our shul underscores this evening’s theme of L’Dor v’ Dor, from
Generation to Generation.
