But how about the other end of the lead rope? We can leave it plain, perhaps burning the
end (if it’s synthetic) to prevent unraveling, or if it’s natural fiber rope, learning one of the
methods of whipping. An expedient is simply a wrap of tape around the end of the rope.
But I like to finish my lead ropes with something more attractive and useful on the end.
Occasionally a horse pulls a rope through your grip when you’re not ready for it, and I find a
back splice on the end helps one grip at the last moment, preventing loss of the rope. Yes,
