ORGANIZATIONAL INFLUENCES
Organizational Culture
Organizational Culture refers to the shared values, beliefs and
priorities regarding safety that govern organizational decision
making, as well as the willingness of an organization to openly
communicate and learn from adverse events.
● Values - revenue generation supersedes safety, limited
recognition/rewards for safety performance or for
reporting safety hazards
● Commitment - compliance with safety regulations is
primary goal, proactive safety initiatives receive minimal
support
● Transparency - adverse events are concealed, lessons
learned from mistakes are not shared throughout the
organization
Resource Management
Resource Management refers to the support provided by senior
leadership to accomplish the objectives of the organization,
including the allocation of human, equipment/ facility and
monetary resources.
● Human resources - poor practices associated with
recruiting and retaining personnel
● Equipment/facility resources - limited acquisition of
necessary equipment/technology
● Monetary resources - budgetary constraints, excessive
cost cutting, unfunded mandates
