Chapter 9
My World Goes Crazy
When I arrived back at the manor Aroha was
rushing in to grab her math book. She was late for
class. Running out the door she asked if someone could
please pick the berries out the back because they were
more than ripe and ready to use. Of course, I
volunteered.
Aroha had been working on her own garden in the
back by the berries and I was looking forward to seeing
how it was coming along.
Much to my surprise the garden was overflowing
and beyond abundant. I could not understand how she
was doing it. She would do her homework and then go
to work; but she seemed to do more sitting than
working.
As I got ready to venture back to the berries, the
Professor headed out to mend a bit of fence by the front
gate before running off to meet a colleague for lunch. As
he left, the skies were darkening and he once again
warned me: “Watch out for the sink holes!”
Entering the woods I started picking berries just
beside the stream. The skies were very overcast and the
ground very muddy from previous rains.
