       LK Advani to be honoured with Bharat Ratna, India’s

       highest civilian award


       As the nation continues to bask in the celebratory
       atmosphere surrounding the consecration of the
       Ram temple in India, the Government announced
       on Saturday the honoring of Senior BJP Leader
       and  key  figure  behind  the  Ram  Janambhoomi
       movement, Lal Krishna Advani, with the Bharat
       Ratna. This prestigious accolade marks the 50th
       presentation of the highest civilian award since its
       inception, and Advani becomes the 7th recipient
       during the Modi Government regime.
       A press communiqué from the President’s House
       stated, “The President has been pleased to award
       Bharat  Ratna  to  Shri  Lal  Krishna Advani.”  Last
       month, the Government had declared Bharat Ratna for socialist icon and former Chief Minister of Bihar, the
       late Karpoori Thakur.
       Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy in a social media post, saying, “I am very happy to share
       that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being
       bestowed with this honor. As one of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the
                                                                development of India is monumental.”
                                                                Modi  further  highlighted  Advani's  journey,  from
                                                                grassroots work to serving as the nation's Deputy
                                                                Prime Minister. He noted, "He distinguished himself
                                                                as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His
                                                                parliamentary  interventions  have  always  been
                                                                exemplary, full of rich insights.”
                                                                Born  in  Karachi,  present-day  Pakistan,  on
                                                                November 8, 1927, Advani served as the President
                                                                of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the longest period
                                                                since  its  inception  in  1980.  Culminating  a
                                                                parliamentary  career  spanning  nearly  three
                                                                decades, he held the positions of Home Minister
                                                                and later Deputy Prime Minister in the cabinet of the
                                                                late Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1999-2004).
