Launch a chain of shops selling a selection of out-of-
season items of clothing from major high street stores –
shorts and swimwear in the winter, hats and coats in the
summer. The stores would offer retailers an alternative
to discounting last season’s stock and appeal to
customers preparing for ski or winter sun holidays.

Introduce a ‘People Bus’ scheme to a town or city.
Pedestrians who regularly chose to walk rather than use
public transport would volunteer to act as ‘buses’. The
volunteers could carry GPS sets, wear ‘People Bus’
jackets or hats and would update a website via their
mobile phones as to the journeys they were undertaking
154on foot. Citizens considering taking a walk could check
the website or their phones for a ‘People Bus’ going their
way and join them for company, security or guidance if
they were unsure of the best route.
