first person to pick up the phone. The service could be
used to avoid making a series of calls to answer
machines in search of someone to talk with. It could
also be used as a mechanism for personal competitions.
Someone with a cinema ticket to spare, for example,
could offer it to the first friend to answer. Friends who
heard the phone ring but picked up too late would hear a
recorded message telling them who was calling and
where they were placed in the race to respond.
