Introduce a website with a scrolling news feed
describing the twists and turns of daytime television
soap operas. Fans of the programmes with office jobs
would be able to stay in touch quite discreetly with
plotlines as they unravelled. A chat facility would also
be offered such that the office-based audience could

247ask specific questions relating to what the characters
were wearing, or the expressions on actors’ faces, to
truly hardcore fans who might be watching the show and
                       online at the same time.

Develop an SMS text game that would be synchronised
to television programmes as they are first broadcast.
Players of the game would watch programmes in an
attempt to spot certain clues; when a character said a
particular word or when stars made surprise cameo
appearances. Answers would be sent by text and a

248cumulative score could be attributed to each viewer. At
the end of a series the biggest and best fans of any
programme would be announced and rewarded.
