67 Sponsor a courier and be seen all over town

Couriers travel all over town, visiting hundreds of busi-
nesses and potential customers every week. Offer to sponsor
your local courier in return for some signage on their van,
bike or on items like their clipboard, helmet, shirt or
trousers.

    The price for this is negotiable. Next time your courier
comes in have a talk to them about the idea. If they
received a few dollars per week or a new helmet once a
year in return for some advertising they would more than
likely jump at the offer.

    Some businesses would be better suited than others to
promote in this way. For example, a bike shop would get
great exposure by sponsoring a bike courier, perhaps a
stationery shop for the clipboard or a uniform supplier
for the shirt. The potential is unlimited and the exposure
for your business could be considerable. Sponsoring a
courier is like sponsoring a Grand Prix racing car, only on
a smaller scale.

    A number of clever business operators have developed
a very high-profile way to promote their business. Basically
they find someone with a big truck and they paint a
company advertisement down the side. The effects of this
are very visual.

    First, it looks like the truck actually belongs to the
company doing the advertising, which makes them appear
very large and successful, ultimately giving the business a
good deal of credibility. The second benefit is that the
advertisement will be seen by thousands of other motorists
travelling on the same roads as the truck, resulting in some
very effective advertising.

    The hard part is probably finding a truck for you to
advertise on. If your company moves a lot of freight with
one particular company, they may be prepared to let
you paint up one of their vehicles. Many large national
