C h a p t e r 1 6 Establishing Your YouTube Channel 189
Note
A gadget is a small application, typically written in Flash or HTML/Ajax,
that adds specific functionality to a web page.
• Video page banner (300 × 45 pixels) displayed above the video player
on all your video pages, like the Sony (www.youtube.com/user/
sonyelectronics/) logo shown in Figure 16.13.
• Custom thumbnail image, provided by you, for each video you upload.
• Ability to use demographic filters to restrict access to your channel.
• Additional tracking capabilities within Google Analytics.

The result is a much more customizable page, in terms of both look and feel and
content, as well as better-branded video pages. Done right, a brand channel page
can seem much more like a traditional company or product web page than a typical
YouTube channel.
Applying for a Brand Channel
If any or all of this sounds good to you, how do you apply for a brand channel?
First, you need to have a regular YouTube account. Second, you need to be signed
up for Google AdWords PPC advertising, or be ready to sign up—and make a big
advertising commitment.
