That means every year since year one up to now would make this the 12 trip. The feast was
to go on for seven days as was the custom. So Penny wasn’t getting anything new from
Jerusalem. Still this was more than a formality.
It was a requirement for his parents to be there. Nothing unusual ever took place during the
feast. So his parents weren’t expecting anything out of ordinary to happen. When the gig was
up, the parents made a bee line straight for home.
Little foolish was they. They never checked to see if Penny was with them in the crowd. They
just assumed the boy knew his way home. Parents shouldn’t expect their children to act like
behavioral soft wear.
They can’t program them to do good even if all parents do is behave prudently before them.
Children have to learn to be good on their own. It was best for baby to be in Jerusalem from
day one.
Now baby was a grown up boy of 12. Surely they didn’t expect him just to play nice and do
what mommy and daddy said. Still Moses instructed children to honour mommy and daddy
so that with long life will they be satisfied in the land they were given.
Penny wasn’t the exception to the rule. After the feast Penny was supposed to make the same
trip back home with the parents. It’s not clear when the parents discovered that Penny wasn’t
in the mix so they began searching for him among the relatives and friends.
They say that bad company corrupts good morals. But this was good company. Yet Penny
was not in it. Yes the boy was special but still he had to obey the parents. He wasn’t still the
consolation of Israel.
He was supposed to be the consolation of mommy and daddy but Penny was playing hooky at
that time. So when mommy and daddy couldn’t find Penny, they made a bee line back to
Jerusalem. Penny was back in the temple but was not worried about mommy and daddy.
Not normal for children. Even boys and girls of 12 would freak out if they lost sight of their
parents one hour. Penny was chilling and his parents were spaced out. This was not cool boy!
Could we surmise that this had happened again?
We do not know. So what was so special about this trip? To mommy and daddy the feast was
special every time the trip. But Penny wasn’t going to Disney Land and getting wowed each
time he saw Mickey and Donald.
By year 12, Penny was supposed to have gotten used to the idea of this trip. Still Penny
stayed behind. Wow! Mommy and daddy searched for Penny for 3 days none stop. They
didn’t even have packed lunch.
