iii) ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS OF WATER ENTRY THROUGH VIKRANTH
ENGINEERING OCB FILTERS DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT

M/s Vikrant Engineering Works/Kolkata make Oil cooling Blower Filters
provided in OCU units in three phase locomotives. Rain water is
draining from the roof OCB filter directly on the radiator instead of
draining mechanism (duct pipes). It was noticed that the venturi filter
is not having any mouth piece in addition to Vortex generator and

resulting in rain water and dust particles are falling directly in to the
OCB duct and resulting in failure of OCB motor due to moisture. Shed
has carried out a cyclic check in 66 Locos (132 cab sets) of these 68
cab sets were found defective. Firm has agreed it as a manufacturing
defect and agreed to make good all the defective filters in the shed.
50 cab sets were replaced by firm and balance 18 cab sets to be
replaced.
