20 Questions about PowerPoint in the Virtual Classroom
Q 9
There are times when I use complete sentences on my slides. For example, I might include a quotation from a
well-known expert. Or I might share a simple case study on a slide that is also in the participant material.
However, these are exceptions to a general rule to avoid complete sentences on slides.
Instead use a simple phrase to capture a key point. When
speaking aloud about that phrase or concept, use full
sentences.
One of my colleagues often puts his thoughts together by
typing out everything he wants to convey about a topic on his
slides. But, once he has “dumped” it all out, he goes back
through the slide deck and moves most of that text into the
Notes section, translating long sentences into simpler bullet
points.
