20 Questions about PowerPoint in the Virtual Classroom

        Q 12

People often ask for the slide deck before the session because they want to take notes on the slides. In general,
we don’t recommend this method. As they flip ahead in the deck, they convince themselves that they have what

they need to know in the slides. They think they can tune in and out, listening when you get to the section they’re
interested in. Instead prepare a participant guide with places for them to take notes. Let them know that you will
send out the slide deck at the end of the session.

        Q 13

If I have six lines of text on a slide, I may choose to animate
each line of text so that I keep people focused on each new point that I’m making. But, as an alternative, I may
simply display all six lines of text and use the pointer arrow to point to each line of text as I explain it in different
words. Be wary of including the same kind of animation on each slide. That can quickly feel repetitive. Be wary of
animating every slide with photographs or blocks of text flying in and out. That can quickly become annoying.
You’re looking for an elegant balance in which occasional animation captures people’s interest, but not so much
               animation that you exhaust them.
