20 Questions about PowerPoint in the Virtual Classroom
Q 18
I’ve seen so many clients make the mistake of displaying a
software application on their desktop and then droning on and on
as they demonstrate how to perform the software functions. They
expect participants to follow their cursor as they click, drag,
highlight, and enter. But, let’s be real here. This is one of the most
boring ways to learn. Most participants will prompt you to speed
it up, because they can’t wait to just log into the software and
figure it out for themselves.
While it takes more time to prepare, you would serve your
learners to think about what tasks they need to perform in the
software. Prepare some simple case studies. Break the required
actions down into short sections. Take screen shots of relevant
steps in their use of the software. Use the screen shots to “tell
them what you are going to demonstrate” as you introduce a
short section.
