attitude toward others will be defensive and manipulative. You will have an
                inordinate investment in making certain you are not taken advantage of.
                Your body may feel tight, and this tension may manifest itself in a furrowed

                brow, a headache, an upset stomach, or simply a mild tension. Your
                thoughts may become extremely rapid. The power with which your gremlin
                will be attempting to squelch your essence and the natural you may be so
                intense that you may not even notice him unless you allow yourself the sort
                of self-awareness we practiced earlier. Use what you have learned about
                centering yourself.


                     Reflect on and practice what you are learning. Remember to:





                     Breathe.


                     Center yourself.


                     Use your “I’m taming my gremlin” mantra.


                     Notice where you end and all else begins—your skin.
                          Establish the here and now as a home base from which you
                          shine your spotlight of awareness.


                     Use your spotlight of awareness to simply notice:



                           Your body
                           The world that surrounds you
                           Your habits

                           Your concepts
                           Your gremlin’s chatter



                     While it is counterproductive to force yourself to change a habitual
                behavior pattern or a concept, it can be very productive to experiment with
                change once in a while. In the Gremlin-Taming Method, this step is called
                playing with options.
