Now, just for a moment, allow yourself to reflect on each room in the
house. Jot down key words and/or draw symbols in each room relevant to
your memories of being in that room.
Remember that these need make sense to no one but you, and remember
also that there is absolutely no way to do this wrong. Enjoy the process.
You may be surprised at how much or how little you remember. You may
recall pictures that hung on the wall, a design on the floor tile or carpeting,
furniture, or even molding around doors. How much or how little you
remember is of no real importance. It is no better to recall lots of details
than to recall only a few. This is not a test. It is an exercise, and it is being
offered to you in the interest of self-exploration and enjoyment. Relax. Go
slowly.
Allow yourself to remember each room. You may recall aromas, a
general feeling, or even a color associated with a given room. You probably
will become aware of variations in your physical experience as you let your
awareness move from room to room. Simply notice your emotions and
thoughts as you do this, jotting down a few words or symbols as reminders
of your memories.
As for me, at this moment I am remembering the feeling of lying next to
my father in my parents’ bedroom. We were listening to a boxing match on
the radio. I remember how good my dad smelled and how warm his flannel
