Look back over your responses to all of the above items and consider
them as representative of a few of the concepts according to which you
have tended to lead your life. As you look at each of these learnings, you
might ask yourself, “Do I still lead my life in accordance with these ideas?”
If so, you might ask, “Does this learning have value in my life today? Does
it take into account who I am today? Is this learning one I have altered over
time? Is this learning one I wish to reconsider from this point forward?”
In order to answer these questions, let’s carry our experiment a little
further. The following fill-in-the-blank items will help you become aware of
some of the concepts of yourself you may still be living within.
Use first-level thought in responding to them. First-level thought is the
simple process of gently reflecting on any given topic during a couple of
easy, complete breaths. It’s a superior alternative to fretting and worry and
at times is more efficient than in-depth analytical thinking. First-level
thought involves your innate ability to come forth with useful information
quickly and effortlessly, and is especially valuable in learning about
yourself and getting in touch with your most fundamental emotions,
concepts, and preferences.
