   Yard of the Month
By: Kevin McNicoll Congratulations to this month’s winner of the Shenandoah Homeowners Association ‘Yard of the
Month’ award that goes to 15664 Malvern Hill
. The owner receives a $25 gift certificate to Clegg’s
Nursery, our gracious sponsor.
Thanks to all of you who take pride in your property. Keep up the great work! We’ll be judging ‘Yard of the Month’ nominations every month and announcing the winner in Newswatch.
Nominations can be submitted any time to our website address: beautification@shawebwatch.com. When you drive down a street of well-kept lawns and landscaping the pride of ownership shows and sends a positive message to visitors to our neighborhood. That pride often correlates to higher value.
In addition to recognition via the Newswatch, our webmaster, Ed Craig has introduced a monthly video tribute to the Yard of the Month winners. It is worth checking out at SHAWebwatch.com.
Prohibition of Storing Non-Running Vehicles and the Fight Against Residential Blight is Back in Effect
East Baton Rouge Parish Ordinance prohibits the storage of non-running vehicles in any residential area of the City of Baton Rouge or any recognized subdivision in the Parish. This is part of the general anti-blight effort. That was showing signs of being successful before a number of natural disasters, most notably the floods of 2016 forced a change of local priorities and an easing of the enforcement of some ordinances.
The war on blight is gearing back up. Targeted in our area are the enforcement of prohibitions of abandoned and “black water” swimming pools, overgrown and abandoned residential properties and abandoned or non-running vehicles.
The SECPID Patrol Deputies have made preliminary lists of potential blight offenders, mostly to do with non-running motor vehicles.
