In Our Society | Protecting Our Profession
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024 NCDS President,
Dr. Doug Schildhaus, our NYSDA Trustee, Dr. Donald
Hills, and our Chair of Governmental Affairs, Dr.
Albert Granger met for dinner at the Capital Grill
with NYS Assemblywoman, Taylor Darling (who is
running for the NYS Senate) along with EDPAC
consultant, Oksana Golovina, Esq. to discuss dental
issues of concern to our members, along with
politics in general. It was a productive meeting and
an example of the importance of organized dentistry
in keeping our profession protected by developing
ties with politicians to discuss legislation, both
proposed and coming up on the floor for a vote,
that can affect the way we practice as well as our
livelihood.

In Our Society |Oral Health Kits Donation
The Nassau Academy of Dentistry (NCDS’s charitable arm) donated
150 backpacks with oral health kits inside to Harmony Healthcare.
The backpacks were left over from our Give Kids A Smile event in
February. GKAS Co-Chair, Dr Joe Brofsky, delivered them on March
13, 2024, to their Roosevelt location at 380 Nassau Road after he
received a request from the New York State Dental Foundation.
Established in 2009, Harmony Healthcare Long Island was the first
Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Nassau County. They
are a non-profit organization, striving to create a healthier commu-
nity by providing the highest quality medical and dental care to
people in Nassau County, especially those who are typically under-
served. This is just another example of the community service our
Nassau Academy of Dentistry* provides to help improve the dental
health of the public.
*The Nassau Academy of Dentistry is a registered 501c3 charitable non-profit organization. It’s
Mission Statement: To provide educational opportunities for members of the dental profession; pro-
mote improvement in the oral health of the public; disseminate the achievements of the art and
science of dentistry to the general public; and conduct and support programs for the advancement of
the art and science of dentistry as well as educational programs and charitable oral health care to the
underserved and general public.
