Life at Millfield is crazy, in the best possible way. There is
no other place like it for discovering and nurturing
potential in whatever area you should want to pick. Since I
joined in Year 8, the number of invaluable opportunities
that I have been provided is incredible. Every step of the
way, my favourite aspect to Millfield has been how each
individual is equally celebrated no matter what their
background or ambitions. Being immersed in a
community that champions diversity and getting to meet
people from all walks of life is one of the special aspects
to being here and has prepared me for later in life.
I am currently studying four A levels in Maths, Further
Maths, Physics and Chemistry and although this can
be tricky to navigate at times, the degree of
one-to-one support and communication with my
teachers massively eases the process. The small
class sizes and differentiated and individualised
style of learning has given me the platform I need to
strive towards my goals.
Not only does the school provide every resource
that you need to perform in your GCSEs and A levels,
it also invites and ignites a passion for deeper
learning. During my time here, I have been able to
cultivate my interest outside of lessons by doing
everything from attending lectures hosted by experts
at Millfield and student-led Brilliance Breakfasts, to
competing in a huge range of Olympiads which have
broadened my curiosity and perspective of the world.
From my viewpoint the culture in the music department
at Millfield is unparalleled in the amount of enthusiasm
displayed on a daily basis by both staff and students.
Music has taken a huge precedence in my Sixth Form life,
leading me to complete my Grade 8 piano and pursue it
further towards diploma level, in addition to picking up
the violin and saxophone. Whether you are new to music
or have been playing for years, you will be encouraged to
escape your comfort zone and explore everything that it
has to offer – something that I’m a big advocate for.
Swimming has been the absolute
centrepiece to my sporting experience
here. I have been exposed to so many
incredible opportunities; from winning
national medals, going to train abroad,
and even having the privilege to
represent Wales at
international
competitions. The calibre
of coaching and facilities are
outstanding and what makes
swimming here so unique is the team
ethos and sense of community –
everyone is supportive of one another
and stimulated to bring the best out of
themselves. It is a massive privilege to be
a part of such an inspiring environment
and I couldn’t have gotten to where I am
now without the help that I have received.
