Musician, prefect, sportsman
I joined Millfield in Year 8 and have enjoyed my
experience all the way through the school. The jump
from GCSE to A levels has been challenging, however
the support and the praise from the teachers has been
rewarding and improved my progress academically across
all three subjects. I am currently studying Business, Music
and PE. There was a variety of subjects to pick from
but I believe I have chosen the best combination for
me and Millfield supports me to develop towards
my goals after Sixth Form.
When I joined, all those years ago it feels like now,
I had no idea what to expect and I felt quite
nervous. The community welcomed me and has
helped me prepare for whatever my journey
will be after Sixth Form. I know that whenever
someone joins Millfield in any year group,
they will find their group of people and fit
straight in. Sixth Form is no exception, as the
bond between the Lower Sixth and the
Upper Sixth is brilliant.
I am heavily involved in the musical and sporting
aspects of the school and staff support me to find
a good balance between these commitments. I first
came to Millfield to work on my swimming and
rugby and ended up finding a passion for athletics on
top of that. In Sixth Form I decided to focus on
rugby; the coaches were very supportive of my
decision and worked out an agreement which
enables me to continue swimming and athletics in
the summer term.
The coaching that Millfield provides has allowed me
to compete for Somerset in all three of my sports as
well as compete nationally in swimming and join the
Bath Rugby Academy.
Every year in the music department we have a wonderful
opportunity to perform in Wells Cathedral as a choir. We
have professional specialist music teachers to help you
grow as a musician and there are various music groups to
join and concert opportunities throughout the year,
including my favourite, the Summer Celebration.
Millfield has really helped me grow as a person, and I
could not do that without the friendship group that I am
in. However this group isn’t just a small amount of people,
at times it is the whole year group. That is what I love
about the diversity here, I can go from being in one group
of my rugby friends in the evening, to my housemates
after dinner and then to watching a music concert with
the friends I have created in the music department.
