Tennis player, philosopher,
future politician
I joined Millfield Prep as a boarder, following on in my
sister’s footsteps. Each time we visited her I was so
impressed by the warmth, the fun, the facilities and the
people that I managed to persuade my parents to let me
try for a scholarship for Year 6. I am now in my seventh
year at Millfield and it has been the best experience I
could have wished for.
There are many schools that are able to offer
either a superb education or an
unrivalled sporting opportunity, but
Millfield is able to offer both
across a wide range of sports.
Before I decided to specialise in
tennis I played lots of different
sports for the school, including
hockey, netball and cricket.
Although I now play an
individual sport, I loved the
camaraderie that came with
being part of a team and I have
great memories of going to regional
and national events together. I am now part
of the tennis academy at Millfield and the coaches’ skills
and experience have been invaluable in keeping me at the
top of the UK rankings and guiding me as I start to
compete internationally.
I am currently studying Politics, Philosophy and History at
A level and I hope to go on to study political science
either in the UK or the US. In the Sixth Form we are able
to access a wide range of resources such as UCAS
information talks, presentations about studying in the
USA, and one-to-one sessions to discuss pathways.
My peers in British tennis are genuinely amazed at the
level of support that Millfield offers for the SAT in terms
of timetabled lessons and an experienced team dedicated
to US universities. I thoroughly enjoy the subjects that I
have chosen and I really value the additional academic
opportunities that Millfield provides, such as the History
and Politics Conference, lunchtime workshops and
Brilliance Breakfasts, where I can learn more about all
sorts of diverse topics from my peers.
Millfield Sixth Formers are given greater independence,
allowing us to manage our own time; balancing
timetabled lessons with private study periods and
sporting commitments. We are in small classes with
outstanding teachers, which means that we are able to
engage with our chosen subjects through excellent
teaching and lively debates.
As an academic and sport scholar I need to balance my
time as effectively as possible and I am tremendously well
supported in this by my teachers, housemistress, group
tutors and coaches, all of whom work together to
help me to make the most of every opportunity.
