VOCATIONAL AWARD IN GLOBAL BUSINESS
COMMUNICATION (SPANISH OR FRENCH)
OPTION CORE
COURSE CONTENT This vocational award is a language qualification which enables students to apply
their language skills to real life situations linked to the world of work. The
qualification has been developed in conjunction with businesses and schools and
develops students’ ability to communicate effectively in the global workplace, both
in the UK and abroad. There are four units in the course, all rooted in French/Spanish
culture and language:
WHAT WILL I STUDY? The course has four units:
Unit 1: Global Opportunities (controlled assessment 25%)
• Learn about the benefits of language skills in a global economy.
• Develop the skills to apply for jobs in the language of study.
Unit 2: Global Customer Relationships (controlled assessment 25%)
• Learn about the skills to be able to respond to customer enquiries, feedback, and
complaints in the language of study.
• Learn how to use technology and social media to connect with customers
Unit 3: Global Customer Marketing and Sales (controlled assessment 25%)
• Learn about the principals of global marketing.
• Develop an understanding of the use of social media to promote and sell products
and services in global markets.
• Develop your skills in presenting a product or service to potential new customers
in the language of study.
Unit 4: Global Travel (external examination 25%)
• Learn about the sources of information for preparing for global travel.
• Develop skills in how to research and book accommodation.
• Gain cultural knowledge about various transport methods in the country of study.
• Understand travel information relating to places in a town or city, weather updates
and transport issues in the language of study.
APPROACH TO TEACHING Students will develop practical knowledge and understanding in how to apply their
AND LEARNING language skills to real-life business activities. To bring to life the practical
application of language skills in the workplace, students will make links with
businesses that work in France/Spain and work on ‘live’ projects.
This course offers a vocational alternative to the traditional GCSE course and is
suitable for students who have an interest in developing their languages skills in a
business context.
ASSESSMENT Students will be assessed through a mixture of project work and exams:
Units 1, 2 and 3 will involve undertaking a series of tasks in response to a brief.
These will be worth 75% of their qualification and will take 19 hours.
In Unit 4 students will undertake an on-screen exam which will be worth 25% of
their qualification.
Three units are internally assessed through controlled assessment coursework tasks.
There is also one externally assessed examination. Assessments are designed to
assess students’ ability to use language in a business context, such as: translating
emails, applying for jobs abroad, arranging travel, putting together an
advertisement or listening to answerphone messages.
