For more information about what we will Relationship and Sex Education (RSE)
cover in next year’s PSHE program please click
here to see the scheme of work. RSE is a planned programme, both within the
PSHE curriculum and during the year in
bespoke groups within houses.
Harriet Sweny
We combine staff and students to deliver to
Head of PSHE
Year 9 on sexual expectations and delaying
intimacy and to Year 9 on periods, products
and puberty to support confidence in
adolescence and dealing with both periods
and emotional changes in an active and busy
co-curricular school. Using students who are
older to co-deliver is part of the recognition
that students really learn from each other and
using the community to teach each other,
deepens relationships and the opportunity to
ask free and honest questions.
The policy for RSE can be found here and the
Relationships and Sex Education booklet that
we provide for students in Years 9-13 can be
found here (The word cloud on the cover is
formed from feedback after student sessions).
The Year 10 and 12 cohort also receive frank,
honest and in-depth RSE over the year in
house groups. This is an expression of a joint
desire by the pastoral, welfare and
safeguarding teams to support questions of
sexual identity, development, difficulties and
misinformation. It is a key pastoral concern to
deliver up-to-date, relevant and safe RSE to
Millfield students in order to increase
knowledge and happiness in interpersonal
sexual relationships.
