FACILITIES AND GROUNDS
“They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number."
Genesis 47:27
Mandate and Membership
With the support of the Church Manager, the Operations Ministry is responsible for the maintenance and
enhancement of all church property, including all facilities and grounds, and for maximizing the rental revenue
from the property at times when Trinity does not require it. Members of the Ministry are: Tom Cleary, Terrie-
Lee Hamilton, Cathy Lemieux, and James Waddell (Convener). Melvin Suwarno (Church Manager) and Kirk
Summers (minister) attended all meetings.
Committed to providing oversight and stewardship of the facility and grounds of Trinity, the Ministry owes a
huge debt of gratitude to Melvin Suwarno in his role as Church Manager and fellow staff members Rivandy
Misael, Juan Arellano and Maria Rocha for being such a competent and dedicated team. Together, with care
and attention to detail, they look after our facility and grounds which present many ongoing maintenance
issues. Some are immediate concerns, some can be deferred, some are predictable, some come as unwelcome
surprises.
The Trinity Tune Up was an outstanding congregational achievement and enabled the Operations Ministry to
proceed with many projects and acquisitions, noting in particular: extensive sanctuary audio system upgrades,
the acquisition of six musical Instruments and multiple pieces of portable sound equipment, a professional floor
cleaning machine, a new illuminated digital sign (to arrive in 2020), a new exterior Centre Court Sign, new
internal signage, a new portable wheeled lectern, painting of the exterior Cross and of the North Hall’s exterior
walls. All of these projects and acquisitions make a wonderful difference. Thank you.
Notwithstanding normal maintenance challenges experiences and a few surprises (sump pumps, elevator,
transformer, roof leaks) experienced throughout 2019, the Facilities and Grounds division of the Operations
Ministry is pleased to report that we begin 2020 with a well maintained and well-run facility. Further, we are
positioning well for the future because, in February 2020, we are to receive the first Trinity Engineering Study.
The results of this Study will help us predict future replacement costs and dates for significant components of
our facility.
As a congregation, we spend a lot of our time together in the North Hall. We need a clean, well-appointed facility
with good heating, cooling, sound, audio and visual equipment, restrooms, and kitchen facilities. Currently, the
Hall has several shortcomings, including insufficient airflow, excessive sound and poor audio-visual
functionality. In February 2020, we will begin a Study on how we can improve the Hall for the benefit of Trinity
members, and for the benefit of existing and prospective renters. As well, it is always important that we secure
