2019 Annual Report
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
The first Sunday of Epiphany marks a new page for me and Trinity. As the church’s fourth Director of Music, I
am delighted to be here – to be part of the family. The warm smiles and welcoming spirit, all generous and
humbling eased my transition from my former congregation at St. Mark’s United. My new colleagues: Vandy,
Melvin, Antoinette and Kirk were in every way truly supportive and with a ready hand.
Being so new, I had all the firsts to everything. Some of the many highlights include the Robbie Burns sing-along,
the exuberant celebration of the Easter Cantata, the Spring Fling fundraising concert, representing Canada and
our church when I played at Kennedy Centre at Washington in the summer, the glorious Canada Day Celebration
with trumpeter Michael Barth, the Reachin’ Out Concert with the Trinity House Band and St. Jamestown
Children’s Choir, playing at Bayview Mall every Friday as part of church visibility and outreach, being a speaker
at the Reformation Breakfast, helping in the production of the Christmas Pageant along with Mark Boucher and
new singing talents, the serenity of the Longest Night Service, the joyful music of the Christmas Cantata with
the Orchestra, the Christmas Eve Family Service, and the Pinata Sunday where I had the Trinity House Band and
Arianna Suwarno play in a violin ensemble.
I share the joy of serving our Lord and Saviour with my team behind me: Melvin Suwarno and his tremendous
leadership with the multi-talented Trinity House Band; John McCord and Wings Lem for their time and presence
in the setting up and upkeep of the sound system at every rehearsal and service, rain or shine; Heather
Newsome, for assisting me with her musical talents in worship; Marg Fisher for her thorough help in the music
library; Angela Tran for her thoughtful digital and online strategies; and Diane Wells, Jeanne Maitland, and Kirk
Summers for their wisdom and guidance in every church undertaking.
It was also a year that marked a time of sorrow with the loss of our choir member and former Church
Administrator, Colin Campbell. Celebrating his life and work at Trinity, we gathered together as family and
friends alike, to bond through our love for him and through music.
It was an interesting year indeed where various musical gems in the choir and youth were discovered, including
Katya Arifin, Maggie Albrecht-Bisset, Robert Bisset and Aiden Van Greuning. I look forward to making and
sharing the joy of music with you again this year, and in the future.
Respectfully submitted, Michael Gomiega, Director of Music
