Descriptions of Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) Courses
Core Courses
NUR 500 (Nursing Research)
This course focuses on complex research designs and analysis of multiple variables.
Emphasis will be placed on techniques for control of variables, data analysis, and
interpretation of results. The interrelationship of theoretical frameworks, design,
sample selection, data collection instruments, and data analysis techniques will be
analyzed in depth. Content will be discussed in terms of clinical nursing research
problems.
NUR 501 (Theoretical Foundation of Nursing)
This course provides an examination of selected theories in nursing and the
relationship between the empirical world, theory development, and clinical practice.
Students will be introduced to different methods of collecting valid data and the
process of theory construction.
NUR 502 (Health Care Delivery System)
Critical examination of the economic, social, political and educational issues and
problems related to current and proposed health care delivery systems. Study of
nursing issues and problems with emphasis on planning for the effective delivery of
nursing services in future health care delivery system.
CHS 550 (Statistics)
This course focuses on basic theory design of experiments. Emphasizes selection,
application, and interpretation of statistical techniques appropriate for nursing
research. Topics include probability, point and interval estimation, hypothesis
testing, elementary regression and one-and two-way analyses of variance.
Primary Care Specialty Courses
NUR 510 (Theoretical Basis of Primary Care Nursing)
Examines the theoretical framework for the systematic study of families throughout
the life span, including family functioning patterns that lead to disorganization. This
course includes lectures, discussions and readings focused on health, social,
economic, and professional factors influencing health care delivery. The student
will be expected to incorporate this knowledge within her own conceptual
framework of nursing practices viewing the individual as a whole person and within
the context of his family and community.
