NUR 11 (Practicum in Primary Health Care Nursing)

This is a clinical course designed to help students develop clinical assessment skills
appropriate for primary care practice. The course provides the student with the
necessary knowledge and experience to assist individuals with the most common
health problems.

NUR 512 (Health Maintenance & Promotion)

This course focuses on the study of the health-core needs of families and
individuals. The family life cycle framework is used in defining parameters of
wellness in planning for health management. Areas of concentration include growth
and development, concepts of disease prevention, health maintenance, and health
promotion.

NUR 13 (Advanced Concepts in Primary Care Nursing)

This course provides the theoretical basis for the competencies of the Primary Care
Nurse Specialist (PCNS). It puts the scientific basis for independent practice as the
RN transitions to the role of the Primary Care Nurse Specialist in health promotion,
disease prevention, diagnosis, planning and management of disease in primary
healthcare practice across the life span. Moreover, this course underlines
collaborative, partnership development among patients, families, and
interprofessional health teams.

NUR 14 (Primary Care Management of Acute & Chronic Disorders)

 Covers theoretical and substantive issues relating to the coordination and delivery
 of health care services to individuals and their families. Examines various methods
 of assessing, diagnosing and managing stable chronic conditions; also, acute
 episodic illnesses commonly encountered in ambulatory health care settings.

NUR 15 (Advanced Clinical in Primary Care Nursing)

 Emphasis is placed upon the refinement and extension of assessment, management,
 evaluation skills, family health care and community health concepts. Clinical
 experience is designed to assist the students in analyzing multiple variables in
 health and disease, and, through a problem-solving approach, in determining an
 optimal plan in relation to both short- and long-term goals.

Elective Courses for Primary Health Care Specialty

NUR 75 (Clinical Management of Primary Care)

Advanced specialization in primary ambulatory care. Focuses on assessment and
treatment of clients. Clinical options include family practice or specialization in
adult, pediatric or women's health.
