In 2020, we will continue using marketing, communications, and engagement with
decisionmakers and influencers to grow users and uses of propane in commercial
buildings. The commercial market sector represents about 20 percent of all propane
demand each year. Commercial demand is less affected by weather than the residential
sector, which helps explain why market share has remained somewhat stable during
Project Summary: warm and cold winters alike. Given the overarching market trends in the commercial
markets, it is more important than ever to continue to talk with individuals and
organizations that are critical to the specification of propane and propane applications in
commercial facilities and on jobsites. The individuals and organizations include builders,
general contractors, architects, engineers, plumbers, and HVAC contractors, among
others. In our outreach to commercial construction pros we’ll combat messages about
the electrification of everything while emphasizing propane’s resilience and ability to meet
facility requirements.

Market engagement is a critical aspect of business development. The Propane Education
and Research Council staff and outsourced professional services work together to
engage existing propane markets, identify and capitalize on new market opportunities,
provide technical expertise to ensure the quality of new products, and connect with
regulatory and funding agency personnel. This project provides funding not tied to
Project Summary: specific projects or existing markets to engage multiple targets who are important to the
propane industry, original equipment manufacturers and others in the sales channels,
regulatory and funding entities, and propane consumers. With OEMs and sales channel
partners, we are able to leverage and share technical subject matter expertise to help
assure new propane-powered products are competitive in the market, including engine
and fuel system technologies, fuel and applications troubleshooting, and product
certification. Engaging regulatory and funding agencies is important to position propane
as a part of national and regional clean energy solutions, including grant funding
opportunities, emissions regulations, and research support. This approach helps provide
