Star rating
The first classification is based on the star system. This
classification is used as a general barometer for guests to better
identify the level of service offered at the hotel. It is very
common if the guests ask the receptionist what star the hotel is.
The classification of hotel type is based on the number of the
room, facilities, and service. There are five types, namely 1) one
star hotel (*), which has minimum 15 rooms with bathroom
inside the room and the standard size of the room is minimum

20m ;2) Two stars hotel (**), which has minimum 20 rooms and
1 suite room with bathroom inside all the rooms and the standard

size for the ordinary room is 22m and for the suite room is 44m ;
3) Three stars hotel (***), which has minimum 30 rooms and 2
suite rooms with bathroom inside and the standard size for the

ordinary room is 22m and for the suite room is 48m ; 4) Four
stars hotel (****), which has minimum 50 rooms and 3 suite
rooms with bathroom inside and the standard size for the ordinary

room is 24m and for the suite room is 48m ; and 5) Five stars
hotel (*****),which has minimum 100 rooms and 4 suite rooms
with bathroom inside and the standard size of the ordinary room

is 26m and for the suite room is 52m .
Ownership
Another way to distinguish between different kinds of hotels is by
the types of hotel management. There are 3 main types of hotel
management categorizations: proprietary ownership, management
contract and franchise. 1) Proprietary ownership. This
categorisation of hotels refers to establishments that are
independently owned and managed. This type of hotel business
can range from residential facilities to commercial ones. Also
known as ‘independent’ or ‘single owner’ hotels, these can often
be family run businesses; 2) Management contract. These types
of hotels are managed by companies or organisations other than
