M. Stuart entered and stared at the place. It was very
large and warm. All the rooms he could perceive
were lighting by large bronze chandeliers.
“I am M. Steadman. Sorry for my indiscretion but
where are you coming from? We are not accustomed
to see visitors at this hour”, said the man.
“I come from England… especially from
Southampton. It will be very kind of you to host me
and my coachman for the night. We didn’t sleep for
hours…”
“Not at all! Please, come to dinner with us. You must
be very hungry with all this road travelled…”
“Thank you so much indeed”, replied very gratefully
M. Stuart.
Several households served the meal and while he
was eating listening M.Steadman’s words, he felt a
very bad feeling spread though all his body. There
was a portrait hung on the wall in front of him, and
he reminded him Elizabeth’s face… Elizabeth had
haunted his memory during all the road, he did not
stop to think about her and her husband.
